Events Stories

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Waste Land was nominated for an Academy Award in the feature-length documentary category in 2010 and has garnered numerous other awards. Directed by Lucy Walker, it tells the uplifting story of Brooklyn-based contemporary artist Vik Muniz as he travels to his native Brazil with the intention of creating art from recycled materials from Jardim Gramacho, the world’s largest landfill located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.

Muniz collaborates with the ingenious catadores, who earn a living by picking recyclable materials from the garbage at the landfill. Their lives are forever changed through the collaboration, when the art finds its way to a prestigious London auction house.

A table will also be set up at the event to provide information about UD’s Sustainability Task Force.
