Rutgers' Cooper to speak in UD's Black Studies lecture series

8:23 a.m., Nov. 5, 2013--Brittney Cooper of Rutgers University will speak on the topic “Let’s Get Ratchet: Theorizing Black Feminisms” from 12:30-1:45 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, in 001 Mitchell Hall on the University of Delaware campus in Newark.

Cooper, assistant professor of women’s studies and Africana studies at Rutgers, will speak as part of the Black Studies: Every Day, Every Night series presented by UD’s Department of Black American Studies.

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Cooper is a 2009 alumna of the Graduate Institute of Liberal Arts at Emory University with a doctorate in American studies. She is also a summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Howard University, with a bachelor's degree in English and political science. 

Cooper is the co-founder of the Crunk Feminist Collective, a hip hop generation feminist-of-color collective of 18 scholar-activists throughout the country, who blog on issues related to feminism and popular culture.
