


June 2-6: Osher lecture series
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute announces June lecture series
3:12 p.m., May 19, 2014--The 18th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Wilmington will be held June 2-6.
The educational and fun program, open to all adults 18 and older, includes two different presentations from 8:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each morning for five consecutive days, including topics with local emphasis, contemporary subjects and musical performances.

A social will be held each of the five mornings with light refreshments, and will be followed by two one-hour presentations by fascinating people from the area. This year’s program includes:
Monday, June 2
- Sam Lemheney, chief of shows and events, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society “Designing the Amazing Philadelphia Flower Show and More.”
- John Flynn, Grammy Award-winning folk singer “Children's Tunes to Biting Political Satire.”
Tuesday, June 3
- Gene Castellano, author and former trustee, Delaware Historical Society “Downtown Wilmington Brought to Life Through Original Photographs Taken Between 1984 and 2012.”
- William Ayrey, quality laboratory manager and company historian of ILC in Dover “The Transition from Making Foundation Garments to Spacesuits, Mars Landers and More.”
Wednesday, June 4
- Jeanne Murray Walker, poet, UD professor and author “The Geography of Memory: Connecting with Those Who Have Dementia.”
- Vincent Vaise, chief of interpretation, Fort McHenry National Park “The 200th Anniversary of Americans Defeating the British at Fort McHenry.”
Thursday, June 5
- Lisa Chieffo, associate director of student programs, UD's Institute for Global Studies “Celebrating 90 Years of Studying Abroad.”
- Justice Randy Holland, Delaware Supreme Court justice and author “Delaware's Destiny Determined By Lewes.”
Friday, June 6
- Gayle Dillman and Jeremy Hebbel, Gable Music Ventures “Bringing Musical Acts to New Venues, Enriching the Wilmington Community.”
- Holly Roadfeldt, internationally honored pianist “Chopin Prelude Set.”
The June lectures have been well received each year. “Once again you demonstrated exceptional quality. Those who didn't attend missed a wonderful week,” one past attendee said, and another added, “A friend suggested several of us get together and attend the lecture series. A great venue for mini-reunion with content.” Another participant said, “I registered three out-of-town friends, and we had terrific week.”
The entire five-morning June series costs a modest $55. Those who are interested should register soon since space is limited.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes at the University of Delaware are membership organizations that provide opportunities for adults 50 and over to learn, teach, and travel with their peers.
There are no academic requirements for admission. The only requirements are interest in a continuing educational experience, support of the programs through participation, and the modest membership fee.
