Mock Trial, real success
University of Delaware Mock Trial team concludes award-winning year
2:49 p.m., May 15, 2014--The University of Delaware’s Mock Trial team has wrapped up a successful year, which included several “firsts”: advancing in competition to a national tournament; hosting a regional competition; and a member’s selection for All-American Attorney honors.
The student team was reactivated recently and went on to do well in competitions in the last two years. This season, the team competed in seven tournaments, finishing with a record of 45-12-1, including first-place wins in the Columbia University and Temple University invitational tournaments and second-place finishes at the Georgetown University and University of Pennsylvania invitationals.

This April, students advanced to the National Championship Tournament in Orlando, Florida, sponsored by the American Mock Trial Association. Of the association’s 600-plus member teams, only 48 advance to the national competition each year. UD competed in a division that included teams from Yale, Georgetown and Brown universities and was won by UCLA, the overall tournament champion.
Also at the national championship, Andrew Donnelly, a member of the Class of 2015, became the first UD Mock Trial member to be awarded an All-American Attorney designation for his efforts.
Earlier this year, UD’s team hosted a regional competition for the first time, with more than 20 teams competing in Newark in February. That tournament was run entirely by students, said Mock Trial president Philip Pasquarello, who credited the former president, graduating senior Ryan Leonard, with organizing the event.
