University Library hosts exhibit 'Books Acquired in Honor of William Swayze'

3:59 p.m., July 18, 2013--The University of Delaware Library has announced a new exhibition, “Books Acquired in Honor of William Swayze,” which will be on view from July 18 through Dec. 13 in the Lincoln case located adjacent to Special Collections on the second floor of the Morris Library.

As a result of a generous donation from the Delaware Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, the library acquired a collection of more than 70 historic Civil War era pamphlets and other publications that are designated to be in memory of William W. Swayze III.

He was a lifelong resident of Wilmington, Del., and received his bachelor of arts degree in business administration from the University of Delaware in 1938. He passed away on Oct. 26, 2009, at the age of 93.

This significant addition to the Lincoln Collection features fiery political speeches, scarce abolitionist tracts, pro-Confederacy publications, Confederate imprints, autobiographical works and much more.
