'Preparing Yourself Today for Investment World of Tomorrow' features Sonders
9:46 a.m., Jan. 9, 2014--The Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics and the College of Arts and Sciences will host a panel discussion, “Preparing Yourself Today for the Investment World of Tomorrow,” at 3:15 p.m., Friday, Jan. 10, in 115 Purnell Hall, on the University of Delaware campus in Newark.
Designed to explore the changing landscape of financial markets and offer insights into how to make intelligent investment choices, the panel will feature Liz Ann Sonders, senior vice president and chief investment strategist for Charles Schwab and Co. and a UD alumna who was recently announced as the University’s Winter Commencement speaker.

The panel will also feature faculty from the Lerner College and from the Department of Political Science and International Relations.
Although the panel is free and open to the public, attendees are asked to register in advance online.
Sonders is one of the most influential women in the world of finance, is regularly quoted in major financial publications and frequently appears on such major national media outlets as CNBC, ABC's Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, PBS NewsHour and Fox Business News, among others. She was a regular panelist and guest host on PBS's Wall Street Week With Louis Rukeyser.
At Schwab, she has a range of investment strategy responsibilities, reaching from market and economic analysis to investor education, all focused on individual investors. She analyzes and interprets the economy and markets on behalf of Schwab's entire client base and chairs Schwab's Investment Strategy Council, which provides strategic asset-allocation guidance and tactical sector recommendations for the company's investor base.
Sonders received her bachelor’s degree from UD in 1986 and sits on UD’s Investment Visiting Committee. She received her master’s degree in business administration from Fordham University.
Ralph Begleiter, former CNN correspondent who is director of UD’s Center for Political Communication, will facilitate the panel.
Begleiter, who is also Rosenberg Professor of Communication and Distinguished Journalist in Residence, brings over 30 years of broadcast journalism experience to the center and the University, where he is an award-winning instructor in communication, journalism and political science. During two decades as CNN’s “world affairs correspondent,” Begleiter was the network’s most widely-traveled reporter. He has worked in some 97 countries on all seven continents and has covered many historic events at the end of the 20th century. He continues to travel with UD students and conducts media workshops in several countries under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State.
