Shaner to deliver talk in executive leadership series
8:04 a.m., Sept. 19, 2012--As part of the 2012-13 Chaplin Tyler Executive Leadership Series, Lance Shaner, chairman and chief executive officer of the Shaner Group, will speak on his extensive career in leading several business companies at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be held in 126 Lerner Hall on the UD campus in Newark.

The Shaner Group, rich on tradition, is a three-generation company based in State College, Pa. Shaner built his extensive career working to uphold the company’s formula for success: “hard work, commitment to growth and a genuine concern for customers and associates alike.”
Shaner’s conservative investment strategy focuses on long-term profitability, dedicated customer service and employees’ resourcefulness.
Shaner is a front-runner, leading companies in finance, venture capital, real estate development and strategic investment advice.
Expertise in contract negotiations and acquisitions helped Shaner build Shaner Hotel Group from a 17-hotel company to 53 hotels in 20 states. In addition, Shaner executed a nationwide franchise agreement in which TGIFriday’s restaurants were installed in several hotels under the management of Shaner Hotel Group.
The Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware hotel on campus is part of the Shaner Hotel Group.
Shaner is on the board of directors of United Way and the YMCA in State College and previously served as an advocate for disadvantaged children.
The Chaplin Tyler Executive Leadership Lecture Series in UD’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics brings leaders from business, nonprofit organizations and the government to campus to share their experiences and insights with students, faculty and the business community in an open exchange of ideas and perspectives.
The series, which is supported by the Chaplin Tyler Endowment Fund, is dedicated to the memory of Chap and Elizabeth Tyler, their commitment to education and their determination to help young people achieve success in the business world.
