Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The entrance fee is $7 with a UD ID, $10 without, and $4 for children 12 and under.  Cash, flex, or credit/debit will be accepted. A UDairy Creamery wristband will be given with each paid entry fee.

In addition, game tickets will be sold for 50 cents each. Creamery employees will man eight different carnival style games, ranging from 1 to 6 tickets with prizes for participation.  “Ice cream on the mooooo-ve” T-shirts will be for sale as well.

All proceeds from the carnival will go towards the creamery ice cream truck fund.

Ice cream eating contests for pre-registered individuals will take place at 2, 3 and 4 p.m. with the last contest featuring special guests including Homecoming court candidates, Blue Hen athletes and Newark Mayor Vance Funk.

“UD students are always asking us why we aren’t on main campus,” said Melinda Litvinas, creamery manager.  “Our store is located on south campus because it is essential to the teaching and research programs of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, but an ice cream truck would allow us to bring some of south campus to other areas of campus. In addition, we would be able to take the ice cream truck to UD campuses in southern Delaware.”
