Master Players Concert Series offers 'Holiday Pops' family concert
1:48 p.m., Nov. 28, 2012--The University of Delaware Master Players Concert Series (MPCS) will offer “Holiday Pops: A Family Concert” at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, in Mitchell Hall on the UD campus in Newark.
The third annual holiday concert, an afternoon event designed especially for families, promises to be an unforgettable musical experience for audiences of all backgrounds and cultures as an MPCS tradition.

Created, produced and directed by MPCS artistic director Xiang Gao, Trustees Distinguished Professor of Music, the family event in the style of a collage concert will feature actor and international family concert creator Michael Boudewyns.
The concert also will feature the UD Chamber Orchestra, directed by faculty conductor James Anderson; the UD Clarinet Ensemble, led by faculty clarinetist Marianne Gythfeldt; the UD Horn Ensemble, led by faculty hornist John David Smith; the UD Percussion Ensemble, directed by faculty percussionist Harvey Price; the UD Graduate Woodwind Quintet, directed by faculty flutist Eileen Grycky; the UD Violin Ensemble and UD Celtic Fiddling Group, directed by Gao; and selected UD student vocal and piano soloists.
These faculty members and selected student performers will present many interactive performances, including Toy Symphony by Leopold Mozart, Spectacular Clarinets, Spanish Violinists, Three Shanties and Christmas Horns for the young audiences, as well as a medley of familiar holiday classics arranged for a variety of instrumentations.
Following the concert, MPCS will hold a free of charge instrument petting zoo hosted by Gao and Boudewyns and a group of UD music education students from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
