University of Baltimore's Lyles to discuss health care ethics and leadership

1 p.m., Nov. 13, 2012--Alan Lyles, Henry A. Rosenberg Professor of Public Private and Nonprofit Partnerships at the University of Baltimore, will discuss health care culture during a presentation at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Trabant University Center Theatre on the University of Delaware campus in Newark.

Lyles will speak about “Managing Conflicts of Interest in Health Care Culture and Leadership in a Time of Change.”

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

During the discussion, Lyles will examine the lines between ethical behavior and legal limits. Topics will include how corporate cultures undermine values and create ethical dilemmas for employees, the role of leaders in shaping the ethical and legal environment in health care, and the challenges of international differences in practice. 

Lyles is also a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and a docent of pharmaceutical policy and pharmacoeconomics at the University of Helsinki. He has a wealth of experience lecturing both in the U.S. and internationally. 

A prominent figure in the health care operations sphere, Lyles’ previous positions include administrative work at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has been chair of the Maryland Drug Use Review Board as well as chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Group on Institutional Planning. 

Currently, Lyles serves as chair of the Nominating Committee for the National Academy of Public Administration. 

With extensive publishing experience, Lyles serves on the editorial boards for Clinical Therapeutics; Drug, Healthcare and Patient Safety; and Biotechnology Healthcare

In particular, Lyles focuses much of his work on pharmaceutical economics and health policy.
