Weinberg Center, Lerner College to host corporate governance symposium


5:19 p.m., Nov. 1, 2012--The Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics' Department of Finance and the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware will host a symposium titled “Governance Issues of Critical Importance to Institutional Investors” from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, in 125 Alfred Lerner Hall.

The symposium will feature four academic papers on critical topics related to institutional investors today. Components of effective board composition and proxy advisory firm performance from the recent “Say on Pay” votes will also be discussed.

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

To engage a lively debate around cutting edge governance issues, panelists include a variety of institutional investors, ranging from large money managers and pension funds to private equity investors and proxy advisory firms

The panelists include:

  • Janice Hester-Amey, portfolio manager, CalSTRS;
  • Glenn Booream, principal, Vanguard Group;
  • Martha Carter, managing director, global research, ISS; 
  • Jonathan Feigelson, general counsel, TIAA-CREF;
  • Scott Goebel, senior vice president and general counsel, Fidelity Management and Research Company;
  • Jack Jacobs, justice, Supreme Court of Delaware; 
  • Andrew Letts, vice president, compliance and governance, State Street Global Advisors;
  • Robert McCormick, chief policy officer, Glass Lewis and Co.;
  • Eric Rosenfeld, chief executive officer, Crescendo Partners; and
  • Josh Targoff, chief operating officer and general counsel, Third Point, LLC.

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard, Jr., Chair of Corporate Governance and director of the Weinberg Center, will moderate the panel.
