Students recognized at General Honors Award Ceremony
6:55 p.m., Nov. 16, 2012--Top students in the University of Delaware Honors Program were recognized in a special ceremony, held Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Trabant University Center.
The award recipients earned 18 or more Honors credits in their first two years at the University and have overall GPAs of 3.20 or higher. They were presented certificates by Michael Arnold, director of the Honors Program, and were congratulated on stage by their college deans or deputy deans.

This year's 328 honorees included 26 students pursuing double degrees in two different colleges. The breakdown by college is 14 in the Agriculture and Natural Resources, 175 in Arts and Sciences, 39 in the Lerner College of Business and Economics, six in Earth, Ocean, and Environment, 19 in Education and Human Development, 75 in Engineering and 26 in Health Sciences.
This year, 27 percent of the qualifying students earned 25 or more Honors credits, and one student earned 45. Some 84 percent of the recipients have grade point averages of 3.5 or higher, and 15 honorees have perfect 4.0 GPAs.

Arnold opened the ceremony and welcomed guests to the event, telling the students, "the better, most productive half of your undergraduate experience lies ahead. I encourage you to continue to take full advantage of all of the opporutnities the Honors Program and the University offer."
Interim Provost Nancy Brickhouse offered congratulations to the students, telling them, "What you've gained from the past two years are an invaluable set of skills and insights and habits of mind that you will undoubtedly carry with you forever. So, it is with great pleasure that I congratulate you on this milestone and wish you every success as you continue this journey."
Brickhouse also thanked parents for giving the students "the space, support and freedom to find their own answers" UD faculty and administrators who have made the students' success possible.
