June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Shakespeare's familiar story about the self-proclaimed womanizer whose ego and self-image are only matched in size by his enormous belly has delighted audiences through the centuries on stage and on film, and Verdi's brilliant music – to be performed in Italian with English supertitles – brings all these elements together.

The bumbling Sir John Falstaff is one of English literature's greatest comic characters, and audience members of all ages, including those with no exposure to opera, cannot help laughing as the oddly lovable knight makes one giant mistake after another, and actually winds up helping everyone but himself in the end.
