Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The Probationary Member Recital will feature the chapter’s 10 probationary members performing instrumental and vocal pieces. The probationary members must complete this recital in order to become brothers in the fraternity. During the recital, probationary members will ask for donations for the One Fund, a charity to help individuals and families afflicted by the Boston Marathon bombings.

Collegiate and alumni brothers will perform together and individually at the Alumni Recital. The recital will also feature the chapter’s a cappella group, the Xi Muses, who will perform their entire spring set. Throughout the recital, the chapter will hold an auction through which audience members can support the Corona Youth Music Project.

The Corona Youth Music Project is an initiative that “promotes social inclusion through music education and performance,” according to the organization’s website. In January, the Xi Mu Chapter traveled to Corona, N.Y., to teach the young people in the Corona Children’s Orchestra a piece called New World Symphony

“I look forward to both attending and performing in these recitals this weekend,” says Liam McCartney, alumni relations officer for the chapter and 2011 graduate of UD. “The best part about it is that we get to share music while benefitting these noble charities and organizations.”
