Lerner College announces faculty, professional excellence awards
2:28 p.m., May 21, 2013--Faculty and professional excellence awards for 2012-13 were announced by Dean Bruce Weber of the University of Delaware's Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics during the spring faculty and staff meeting held earlier this month.
The awards celebrate outstanding teaching, research and service, as well as professional excellence.

Warren Award
Three faculty members won the Lerner College awards for outstanding teaching, research and service, which are based primarily on nominations by students, alumni and faculty colleagues. Each of the winners will receive a monetary award and an award plaque for their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the college. Gary Weaver, professor, business administration, received the Lerner College Outstanding Scholar Award; William Latham, associate professor, economics, received the Lerner College Outstanding Teaching Award; and Diane Ferry, associate professor, business administration, received the Lerner College Outstanding Outreach/Service Award.
Donna Laws, business administrator, Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, received the Leon and Margaret Slocomb Professional Excellence Award, which is presented to a full-time faculty or professional staff member in the college who exhibits a caring attitude for the interest of students and clients, and demonstrates an exemplary commitment to public service, community involvement and innovative activity.
Representatives from the Lerner College Student Advisory Board presented the Lerner College Student Choice Teaching Award to Joshua Winneker, assistant professor of business administration in sport management, in recognition of his excellent teaching. The MBA program also announced the MBA Teaching Award, which went to two recipients this year: Bintong Chen, associate dean of research and professor, business administration, and Katalin Takács Haynes, assistant professor, business administration.
Takács Haynes also recently won the 2013 Greif Research Impact Award, to be awarded in August at the national Academy of Management conference. The annual award, launched in 2007, recognizes an entrepreneurship paper that appeared in the top-tier management and entrepreneurship journals six years ago and received the highest citations, based on the Social Science Citations Index, in the five years following publication.
Takacs Haynes’ paper, "Socioemotional Wealth and Business Risks in Family Controlled Firms: Evidence from Spanish Olive Mills," was co-authored with Luis R. Gómez-Mejía of Arizona State University; Manuel Núñez-Nickel of Universidad Carlos III; Kathryn J.L. Jacobsen of Arizona State University; and José Moyano-Fuentes of Universidad de Jaén, and was published in 2007 in the premier management journal, Administrative Science Quarterly. Each of the co-authors will receive a recognition plaque and a portion of a $5,000 cash prize.
