UD faculty members to present 'Dancing History and Dred Scott'

1:15 p.m., March 6, 2013--Two University of Delaware faculty members will present a performance piece as part of a Department of Black American Studies Brown Bag Lecture Series presentation with the theme "Choreopoetry and the Art of African American History" from 12:20-1:10 p.m., Thursday, March 14, in 203 Munroe Hall.

P. Gabrielle Foreman, professor of English and Black American Studies, and Lynnette Y. Overby, professor of theatre will present a performance piece titled “Dave the Potter’s Couplet Pots: Dancing History and Dred Scott,” which builds on their inaugural piece Sketches: The Life of Harriet E. Wilson in Dance, Poetry and Music.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Overby’s choreography is based on Foreman’s research and includes original poetry by Kennedy Center artists Glenis Redmond and music by talented composers. Sketches is considered both performance and scholarship. Engagement with educators and high school students is a crucial part of the spirit of collaboration that enlivens their work.

The Brown Bag Lecture Series is free and open to the public. The presentation will run about 30 minutes and will be followed by open discussion. Participants are welcome to bring their lunch and enjoy this vibrant and stimulating exchange of ideas.
