Workshop to foster collaboration with Delaware Tech faculty

11:47 a.m., July 9, 2012--Delaware Technical Community College will host a workshop, “HIP (High Impact Practices) for STEM,” on Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Delaware Environmental Education Center on the Wilmington Riverfront.

“We’re looking for innovative faculty from four-year institutions who would like to collaborate with Delaware Tech faculty to bring current, regional research into the community college classroom,” says Virginia Balke, biology and chemistry instructor at Delaware Tech.  “Our faculty can be great partners on outreach and broader impacts sections of proposals.”

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

According to Balke, Delaware Tech faculty from biology, chemistry, computer technology, math, physics, engineering, allied health, and nursing will attend.

The workshop will include the following:

  • Continental breakfast and buffet lunch;
  • Presentations on high-impact educational practices and models for undergraduate research;
  • Breakout sessions to identify where to integrate research-based learning into your course curriculum;
  • Opportunities to form collaborations with faculty from Delaware Tech and four-year institutions; and
  • Discussions about funding opportunities for developing and sustaining undergraduate research.
