Feb. 19: 'Overdraft' screening
Center announces screening of documentary about America's debt crisis
8:39 a.m., Jan. 30, 2013--While America’s debt crisis has been the cause of many a political divide, one organization has set out to create a nonpartisan documentary about the federal deficit and its implications for the American opportunity.
The Travelers Companies Inc., in collaboration with public television, has produced Overdraft, a one-hour documentary that examines the causes and impact of America’s national debt.

A screening of Overdraft will be held Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 5:30 p.m. in the Trabant University Center Theatre. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion.
Partially funded by Travelers Institute, the event is being hosted by the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics.
The University community first saw a trailer for the video at last year’s Economic Forecast, an event co-sponsored by the CEEE and Lyons Companies to help educate students, business and community leaders about U.S. economic policy.
In fall 2012, Travelers launched a national series with screenings of Overdraft at universities to invite students and faculty to join the conversation about the debt crisis.
The upcoming screening is part of the CEEE’s educational mission as well as Travelers’ goal to raise awareness and highlight the growing U.S. deficit and its critical implications for individuals and U.S. economic competitiveness.
Overdraft aims to give viewers a better understanding of how the federal debt affects their daily lives, the choices that will have to be made to manage the problem, and how they can participate in the ongoing economic debate.
Through first-person accounts, contributing factors and possible solutions are presented on major topics like tax reform, defense spending and entitlement programs.
The event is free but registration is required online at overdraft.eventbrite.com or by emailing ragank@udel.edu.
