Duke's Sinnott-Armstrong to deliver Norton Memorial Lecture

12:33 p.m., Feb. 25, 2013--Walter Sinnott-Armstrong, Chauncey Stillman Professor of Practical Ethics at Duke University, will deliver the David Norton Memorial Lecture at 3:30 p.m., Friday, March 15, in 103 Gore Hall, on the University of Delaware campus in Newark.

Sinnott-Armstrong, who is a professor in Duke’s Department of Philosophy and the Kenan Institute for Ethics, will speak on the topic “Are Psychopaths Responsible?”

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The event, presented by UD’s Department of Philosophy and the Class of 1955 Ethics Fund, is free and open to the public.

Sinnott-Armstrong is core faculty in the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, the Duke Center for Cognitive Neuroscience and the Duke Center for Interdisciplinary Decision Sciences.

He has published widely on ethics (theoretical and applied as well as meta-ethics), empirical moral psychology and neuroscience, philosophy of law, epistemology, philosophy of religion, and informal logic.

Most recently, he is the author of Morality Without God? and Moral Skepticisms as well as editor of Moral Psychology, volumes I-III.

His current work is on moral psychology and brain science as well as uses of neuroscience in legal systems.

The David Norton Memorial Lecture honors the late UD philosophy professor.

The Norton Lecture presents contemporary work by leading figures in ethics in a manner accessible to the general UD community.
