Osher Lifelong Learning Institute plans open house in Wilmington

2:39 p.m., Dec. 14, 2012--Curiosity knows no age limit and for those 50 or older, this spring offers an opportunity to discover one of the most dynamic learning cooperatives in the country, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Wilmington. The program has no tests, grades or papers, just learning for fun, a representative said.

Members of the community are invited to visit and experience the program at an open house on Thursday, Jan. 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Arsht Hall, 2700 Pennsylvania Ave., Wilmington.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The open house will feature demonstration classes, musical performances, personal tours and light refreshments.

The Wilmington program boasts more than 2,000 active members, enjoying such benefits as University of Delaware fitness center and library privileges; UD course audit privileges; opportunities to attend lectures, musical performances, social activities, and cultural and regional excursions; and the enjoyment of teaching and learning with contemporaries.

The upcoming spring semester includes a selection of more than 240 courses and extracurricular activities such as yoga, t’ai chi, art, music, humanities and eight different languages, as well as a special opportunity to enroll in piano instruction through the Music School of Delaware.

The 2013 spring semester begins Monday, Feb. 4. In-person enrollment will take place weekdays, Jan. 2-8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Arsht Hall. Enrollments are also accepted by mail.
