Department announces fall schedule of History Workshop weekly talks

1:41 p.m., Aug. 22, 2012--The University of Delaware Department of History will hold its History Workshop lecture series on Tuesdays this fall, beginning Sept. 11 and concluding Nov. 13. 

The series, which is free and open to the public, meets at 12:15 p.m. in 203 Munroe Hall, with presentations beginning at 12:30 p.m., followed by discussions that end at 1:45 p.m. Audience members are welcome to bring their lunch.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

On Election Day, Nov. 6, the workshop will meet at the polls.

The lecture series "has been a feature of the history department's intellectual life now for over 35 years," said Anne M. Boylan, professor of history.

Topics in this year's series range from the impact of the first Earth Day in 1970 to women's civic commitment in 1920s Detroit to controversies involving kosher law and modern food. For a complete schedule of speakers and topics, visit the website.
