With her distinct and captivating voice, Burrell reaches beyond the traditional gospel audience. She has five albums of her own -- the most recent, The Love Album, was released in 2011 -- and has also performed alongside Hezekiah Walker, Ty Tribbett, Shirley Caesar, Ricky Dillard, Kelly Price, Stevie Wonder and Le’Andria Johnson.
A long-time friend of the late Whitney Houston, Burrell sang a tribute at Houston’s funeral entitled A Change is Gonna Come. She had performed I Look to You on-stage with Houston at BET’s Celebration of Gospel in 2011.
In addition to Burrell, there will be performances by Zak Williams and 1/Akord, the UD Gospel Choir and Solace Dance Crew, and the Delaware State University Gospel Choir. The event will be hosted by Thomas (T.C.) Clay.
Tickets cost $5 for UD students (one ticket per University ID) and $12 for the general public, and will be available beginning March 26 at University box offices and Ticketmaster outlets.
The concert is being presented by the University's Cultural Programming Advisory Board and the UD Gospel Choir.
