Osher Lifelong Learning Institute announces open house in Wilmington
8:54 a.m., July 26, 2011--Have you ever wanted to practice Chinese calligraphy, play the piano, research your family roots, dissect a computer, habla Espanol, or take an imaginary journey to the American West with mountain men, railroaders and homesteaders?
If you're 50 or over and appreciate an intellectual challenge while meeting interesting people, then come to the open house at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Wilmington (formerly the Academy of Lifelong Learning), where more than 2,100 enthusiastic adults share their talents and interests in one of the nation's largest and most vibrant academic cooperatives.

An open house is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m.-noon, at Arsht Hall, 2700 Pennsylvania Ave., Wilmington.
A preview of fall courses will be showcased, including art, t’ai chi, gardening, German, computers and music. Tours of Arsht Hall and light refreshments also will be offered.
Membership for both fall and spring semesters combined is $410 ($230 for fall semester only), which covers up to five courses each semester. Gift certificates for membership are available for purchase; call 302-573-4486.
This fall more than 250 courses and extracurricular activities are offered. Topics include history (Delaware, U.S. and world), current events, economics, languages (10 in all, including Japanese, Greek and Portuguese), music, science, art and yoga to name a few. All classes are held at Arsht Hall during the day. Ample parking is available.
In addition, numerous lectures and cultural performances are scheduled. Travel is also an integral part of the cooperative, with opportunities from local trips to international adventures. Members are encouraged to take advantage of University of Delaware benefits such as UD course audit and email privileges, plus access to Morris Library and the student fitness center.
