May 9: Focus group training

Center for Disabilities Studies, partners explore safe and accessible focus groups

2:03 p.m., April 12, 2012--The First State Equal Access to Safety Initiative, a collaborative effort of the Center for Disabilities Studies at the University of Delaware (CDS), Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence (DCADV) and National Alliance for Mental Illness, Delaware Chapter (NAMI Delaware), is offering training on “Conducting Safe and Accessible Focus Groups” on Wednesday, May 9. Space is still available for this training. 

Individuals who are members of the initiative focus group team, focus group note-takers, staff members and students who design or participate in research will benefit from this training.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

In addition to general information about conducting focus groups, the session will explore the safety and accessibility of conducting focus groups with people with disabilities.

The training will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Center for Disabilities Studies, 461 Wyoming Road, Newark. The program is free and open to the public; however, seats are limited and reservations are required. The First State Equal Access to Safety Initiative partnership seeks to promote statewide changes that will create an environment in which victims of domestic violence are met by a system that understands the unique needs of people with disabilities.

CDS supports the well-being, inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities and their families.
