Ambassador Clyde Bishop to address Salvation Army at annual civic dinner

10:43 a.m., April 7, 2011--Clyde Bishop, a University of Delaware alumnus currently serving as U.S. ambassador to the Marshall Islands, will be the keynote speaker for the annual Salvation Army Civic Dinner to be held Monday, May 16, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, Del.

Bishop received a bachelor’s degree from Delaware State University and continued his education at the University of Delaware, studying urban affairs and public policy in the College of Education and Public Policy. He received his doctorate in 1976.

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

He taught at Southern Illinois University before beginning his career in the Foreign Service, with his first post being in Palermo, Italy, in 1981.

“Dr. Bishop’s story of lifelong service to humanity as an educator and in the foreign service of our country will be both entertaining and compelling,” said Major Philip DeMichael, Salvation Army regional coordinator.

The fund raising dinner event will include a silent auction. Proceeds will benefit Salvation Army programs through the state.
