In its latest annual Internet Crime Report, the FBI indicated their Internet Crime Complaint Center received nearly 792,000 victim reports of suspected internet-facilitated crime in 2020. That number was 69% more than 2019, at a total cost exceeding $2.4 billion. Phishing scams registered 241,342 complaints, with adjusted losses of over $54 million. Much of the increase was attributed to illegal activities trying to take advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic.
