Report: Concerted Global Cyber Attack Could Disrupt Global Economy
What happens when cyber risk researchers run a war game with the world's most virulent ransomware strain? In a word: catastrophe. Modeling the spread of the fictional "Bashe" attack, the Cyber Risk Management (CyRiM) Project estimated global economic losses of almost $200 billion, with 600,000 businesses impacted in only 24 hours. (For comparison, the infamous WannaCry ransomware resulted in losses of "only" $4 billion). The challenge of reducing this exposure across all industries falls to cybersecurity and risk experts and business leaders.
