Module description

Participants learn about the presentation of evidence using document cameras, presentation software, projector devices, and smart boards. Includes discussion on the impact of these presentation methods on a jury.

This module is a required component of the Legal Nurse Consultant Certificate program at the University of Delaware. In this program, registered nurses become familiar with legal theory and the overall litigation process, including how to review legal cases, evaluating the merits of cases, writing legal reports, and the impact of legal theory on the medical and judicial systems.

Professional image project

Submit two Microsoft Word documents. For each, select a template and then customize it to match your business identity (or using fictional placeholders, where necessary). The Microsoft Word template list includes the following:

Information design project Submit one document from this list:
Report template or spreadsheet, or other advanced document based on class exercises.

Computer-based presentation project PowerPoint presentation or web site presentation, as determined by your needs and goals.

Web site project Create a basic professional web site using Google Sites.
The initial version of your web site will be created during the third session.

Class participation This course includes many opportunities for participation in ungraded, in-class and homework exercises. A few examples include creating an e-mail vCard, opening a diigo account, using e-mail attachments, and collaborating with Google documents. Class participation reflects accomplishments that are appropriate for your technical background.

All projects must be submitted to the instructor as an e-mail attachment or via the UD Dropbox.

Students must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 (C) for all certificate courses, with no grade lower than a D.

Course policies

To achieve the course objectives, active participation is required during all class sessions. Projects must be completed prior to the respective class meeting in which the project is due.

All absences will be approved in advance by the instructor (with the exception of unavoidable emergencies). If a student misses more than one session during a module, the instructor will require an additional assignment to hold the student accountable for the content missed.

About the instructor

Paul Hyde has an M. Ed. in Educational Technology and has supported educational applications of technology for over twenty years. He works as Manager of Academic Technology Services at the University of Delaware. He was a 2002 recipient of UD's Award for Excellence in Teaching Adult Students. In the field of courtroom presentations, Paul has prepared digitized video dispositions that are synchronized with scrolling text transcripts and with supporting illustrations.
