New vice president named

Wayne Guthrie, associate vice chancellor of human resources at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has been named UD’s vice president for human resources, President Dennis Assanis and Executive Vice President Alan Brangman announced. His appointment is effective Dec. 1. Learn more.

Coming soon: flexible spending account enrollment

Open enrollment for 2019 Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) will run Nov. 5 through Nov. 19. Eligible employees will be able to set aside pre-tax dollars to cover out-of-pocket health care and day care expenses. Prior participants must re-enroll. Plan ahead by considering eligible expenses.

Workplace Perspectives - Live the Life You’ve Imagined

Join us at the North Atrium, STAR Campus on Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 10-11:15 a.m. for a discussion with Kathy Matt, dean of the College of Health Sciences and executive director of the Delaware Health Sciences Alliance. Register to attend.

Retirement workshops and information booth

TIAA will be hosting one-hour retirement workshops on the Newark campus today, and Thursday, Nov. 15. Topics include debt consolidation and mortgages, transitioning from career to retirement, managing income and debt, and retirement planning. TIAA will also host a general information booth on these days for questions and assistance with accounts, no appointment necessary. Learn more and register for a workshop.

Search committee training

Search committees are critical to hiring top talent and they provide an advantage by bringing in different perspectives, experience and expertise to a hiring process. The online search committee training and additional supporting materials, including sample interview questions, provide a good baseline for anyone serving on a committee. The brief session reviews best practices to conduct and serve on a committee as well as provides tools to help manage the search process. Learn more.

Tech Open House

University of Delaware Information Technologies will host the annual Technology Open House on Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Trabant Student Center Multipurpose Rooms. Explore the ways technology can help you, your clients and your students. Register.

Tuition exchange

The application period for the UD Tuition Exchange Program scholarships will close on Oct. 24. Those interested in applying should do so through the Educational Benefits web form. (Select “BEN Education Benefits” in the menu).

Mid-Year appraisals

Remember to schedule a mid-year check-in with your manager to revisit your annual performance goals and discuss progress. Previously known as calibration, the check-in enables employees and managers to add or modify goals and provide guidance prior to the annual appraisal. Human Resources has created a new 180-day Evaluation Form for managers to document feedback. Learn more.

Management Essentials certificate program

If you are a new manager, or looking to grow your managerial skills, the Management Essentials certificate program is for you. The program, offered to full-time employees, provides managers with strategies to improve employee performance, deal with conflict and effectively cultivate a culture of respect. Courses include five online modules and three in-person courses: Coaching and Managing Workplace Conflict, Leveraging Team Strengths and Setting Goals and Evaluating Performance. Employee Health and Wellbeing Fair

Join us Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on STAR Campus where you can learn and connect to the myriad of UD health resources available. We will provide biometric screenings including cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure and BMI. Each area will host a table to provide educational information and a friendly face to discuss available health services. Register to attend.
