New Vice President Named

Melissa L. Bard, who has worked extensively in higher education human resources, has been named vice president and chief human resources officer, President Dennis Assanis and Executive Vice President John Long have announced. Her appointment is effective Aug. 1. With experience building high performing teams and collaborative relationships, Bard has led the human resources operations at Frederick Community College, California State University, East Carolina University and Pennsylvania State University. Jared Aupperle, who has served as interim vice president since February 2020, will return to his previous role as director of talent solutions and recruitment. Read more.

COVID-19 Vaccination Update

COVID-19 Vaccination: All faculty and staff accessing UD facilities are required either to provide proof that they have been fully immunized against COVID-19 or they must continue to comply with regular testing protocols. Employees who are vaccinated should disclose results by Aug. 1, 2021. An online portal to submit this documentation is available here.

Parking Update for Fall 2021

UD Parking Services Department is resuming fees for campus parking for fall 2021. The rates will be the same as the 2018-19 academic year. Parking permits have been complimentary since March 13, 2020, and they will expire Aug. 27, 2021. Learn more.

Benefits Reminder

CVS Caremark Prescription plan is in effect as of July 1, 2021 (for active and pre-Medicare retirees). As a reminder, please use your new prescription card when you visit the pharmacy so that your prescription benefits are updated. Learn more.

Delaware Tech (DTCC) Tuition Waiver Exchange

Human Resources is now accepting applications for the DTCC waiver exchange lottery. This program waives the fall and spring tuition for one dependent who is enrolled on a full-time basis in a degree-granting program at DTCC. The deadline is Aug. 5. Learn more.

UD Farm Stand

UD student interns are operating a UD Farm stand at two campus locations every week this summer: from 4-7 p.m., every Wednesday, at the UDairy Creamery's flagship location, 535 South College Ave., and from 3-6 p.m., every Thursday, with the Moo Mobile at the North East Lawn of the Health Science complex at STAR campus. Stop by each week this summer for fresh tomatoes, squash, herbs and more, grown right on the UD Farm. Learn more.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, employees persevered to keep the UD community up and running. This monthly segment on Working at UD highlights some of our Blue Hen Heroes who are working diligently each day to create and maintain safe spaces for us all, while continuing to meet challenges of protecting the flock.

In-Person, Virtual and On-Demand Fitness Classes

Whether you are working on campus or remotely, Employee Health and Wellbeing has a variety of group exercise offerings to assist you in reaching your health and fitness goals while also boosting your creativity, energy and productivity throughout the day. Incorporate daily movement by participating in one of our three fitness class options: in-person, virtual or on-demand, which started on Monday, July 12. An All-Access Membership is required in order to participate in in-person and virtual fitness classes. Looking Ahead to FY22

In a year like no other, the resilience and strength of our UD community has been inspiring. Many employees rallied with generosity and engagement to ensure the Blue Hen family remained strong. More than 1,100 employees gave $1.2 million to the UD causes they care about, contributing to the overall $83.8 million raised in FY21. Such support ensures all Blue Hens have the critical resources to help them grow and succeed at UD and beyond. Thank you!

Employee Assistance Program

Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is now being provided through ComPsych® GuidanceResources®. This is a free program available exclusively for State of Delaware Group Health Plan non-Medicare members and their dependents. Those not eligible to enroll in the Group Health Plan will have access until the COVID-19 pandemic has ended. EAP can help with a wide variety of work and life issues.
