The Program for Enhancing Teaching Effectiveness (PETE) is designed to help sustain the vitality of teaching at the University of Richmond.  PETE is administered by a committee of ten members and a faculty coordinator. The members represent a variety of approaches to teaching; their charge is not to advocate particular theories or practices, but rather to encourage discussion and reflection about teaching and to foster the faculty's efforts to be the most effective teachers they can be.

Information Services encompasses both the Library and Technology infrastructures at the University of Richmond. Through the ongoing conversation with the PETE committee and members of Information Services (IS), a collaborative partnership has been formed to further enhance teaching by providing faculty development opportunities designed to address the added pressures the Information Age has imparted upon teaching and learning. This has been accomplished through a triangular partnership of complementary expertise at the University of Richmond including support from the three elements of this partnership:

  Faculty (PETE)

  Librarians

  Academic Technologies Services Professionals

Each of these groups offers knowledge and abilities; however none of these groups by itself is likely to promote faculty development effectively, no matter how heartfelt and unfaltering its efforts. It was very quickly realized that if these groups came together, they could develop a set of effective workshops, events and support structures that would promote faculty development. Examples of our successes include an Information Literacy Think Tank, Tech Fair, Information Fluency workshops, and technology related grant processes.

The purpose of this Panel Discussion will be to share the perceptions of the various components of this partnership, and to report on the effectiveness of our workshops, events and collaborative efforts.
