56 Bleeding Edge v. Leading Edge: The Challenge of Supporting New and Emerging Technologies
Constance Paras, Carnegie Mellon University
This paper will focus on the support issues at
Carnegie Mellon University surrounding two emerging network technologies: DSL
and Wireless Ethernet (802.11).
The support issues discussed will encompass support
decisions, training required (and for whom), partnerships and dependencies, and
the new physical
equipment required to make the technology function. I will discuss some of the support problems by using case studies and describing how the availability of these technologies affects current support for networking.
