Wi-Fi updates continue

IT staff completed an evaluation of the wireless service in all 182 centrally scheduled Newark campus classrooms in fall 2015. As a result, 174 of the classrooms had upgraded wireless access points (WAPs) installed that provide 33-50% more bandwidth. The new WAPs also extend wireless signals further and with greater strength than the previous generation of WAPs. In spite of the campus network showing peak usage of over 40,000 wireless devices, the new WAPs helped reduce the number of classroom wireless IT Support Center incidents to almost zero.

Due to network design and construction challenges, seven of the remaining eight classrooms received additional WAPs in January. The eighth classroom's upgrade should be completed before the start of the spring 2016 semester.

In 2016, IT hopes to expand this program into larger meeting and conference rooms around campus. For example, upgrades have already been installed in the Perkins Student Center (Rodney Room and Perkins Gallery).
