Steve Larson, physician and founder of the Puentes de Salud clinic, because he knows how to make our uninsured population healthier

Steve Larson is a physician with a unique perspective on health care reform: he focuses on the social support of immigrants and underserved populations in hopes of improving their health outcomes.

Steve Larson is assistant Dean of Global Health at the University of Pennsylvania. He has over twenty years experience working in South American countries, including Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. Recently, Dr. Larson has focused his efforts on Puentes de Salud, a free clinic in south Philadelphia he founded in 2002 to address the needs of a rapidly growing Latino population. In addition to providing medical services for its patients, Puentes de Salud addresses the social determinants of health (SDH), such as poverty and lack of medical literacy, through education, community partnerships, and advocacy efforts. With health care reform around the corner, there is a lot we can learn from Dr. Larson's unique approach to health care.
