Writing Assignment #1
“Top Priorities”
Due: Wednesday, February 25, 2004

Research: Americans today seem to fear dangers from abroad, often not knowing exactly what they are. Use the internet to discover what foreign threats the American people seem to be concerned about. (You can check public opinion polls and news reports to see what's on Americans' minds.)

Write:
Using resources available on the Global Agenda web site, including the Foreign Affairs anthology, and other sources you find, write a 4-5 page paper outlining what you think are the top international dangers to the United States. Compare your thinking to what you find out about the American people generally. Do you think there are dangers about which the American people aren't thinking very much? Limit yourself to highlighting just three threats about which the American people should be concerned.

Things to remember:
You need not follow anyone's lead in selecting your topics. Don't limit yourself to those explicitly involved in this course; you might think something else is more important. And don't limit yourself to dangers being highlighted by either candidates for political office or by the present U.S. administration.

You must cite your sources, either in the body of your paper, with footnotes, or on a bibliography page.
