Payments and Withdrawals

Students on University of Delaware Travel Study programs pay a Program Fee and Tuition & Fees for the semester or session. See the individual program website for cost information. Although Program Fees usually cover housing, medical insurance and excursions, the specific items covered by your Program Fee may differ; check with the program’s faculty director or program coordinator for details.

  1. If you are offered acceptance to a program, you will have 3 days to withdraw without financial penalty.
  2. After the 3 days have passed, you will be officially accepted to a program.
  3. Once officially accepted, IGS will post the full Program Fee and Tuition/Fees to your UD student account.

    1. An initial payment of $1000.00 will be due within 10 days of acceptance.
    2. The balance of the Program Fee and Tuition/Fees will be due the semester or term before you travel (see dates posted on your bills).
    3. Payments are submitted through My Finances in UDSIS.
    4. All charges, once posted to your account, are considered non-refundable.

If you have applied to a program, but would like to withdraw your application, login and click the “My Checklist” link to submit the Request to Withdraw Form.

We begin making non-refundable payments to airlines and program vendors once you have been accepted. Refunds of the Program Fee are at the sole discretion of IGS. If you withdraw your application after being officially accepted, you will be responsible for paying a $500 withdrawal penalty and all costs that have been spent or committed on your behalf. If those costs exceed the portion of the Fee that you have already paid, you will be responsible for paying the difference, up to the cost of the entire Program Fee.

IGS reserves the right to cancel a program at any time due to under-enrollment, safety, health, or security issues, staffing issues, or any other relevant reason. If your program is cancelled, you will receive a full refund of all Program Fees paid.

SFS says I have several Travel Study payments due monthly. What do I actually owe and when is it due?

Your remaining amount owed can be found in the “Balance” column. SFS strongly recommends that you PAY MONTHLY – see My Finances for the suggested payment schedule. However, you are not required to pay on the provided installment schedule. Whatever is not paid will be your FINAL BALANCE. You will receive a bill for the final balance in the weeks before your departure.

How can I submit a payment for a different amount than SFS suggests?
If you need to submit a payment for a DIFFERENT AMOUNT, submit it here ( Log into My Finances after 2-3 business days to confirm that the payment correctly credited to Travel Study. If it did not credit correctly, call SFS (302-831-2126).

I received an IGS scholarship. Where can I see it? Can I use it to pay the $1,000 payment?
If you received an IGS SCHOLARSHIP, it should appear as Pending Aid on your My Finances screen (this may not post until 3-4 weeks after your official acceptance). Scholarships credit toward the final balance, not your initial $1,000 payment.

Is there a penalty for withdrawing from the program?

If you WITHDRAW from the program after being officially accepted, you will be charged a minimum $500 penalty, plus all that has been spent on your behalf.

I had credit on my financial account that was intended for an upcoming term, but it was incorrectly applied to my Travel Study costs. How can I guarantee that the correct semester is paid?

Call SFS (302-831-2126) to notify them of the issue and follow their instructions.

I would like to pay using a 529 plan. How can I do this?
Select the “Mail a check” option on the payment screen. As 529 checks can take up to 4-6 weeks to arrive, plan ahead so that your payment is received by the deadline. If you expect your check to arrive after the posted deadline, IGS will need proof that you requested the check from your 529 provider. Please email a scan of the receipt/statement confirming the transaction to, including the student’s name and the title of the study abroad program. Continue to monitor My Finances to confirm that your check was received and correctly posted.

I sent a personal check several days ago, but it still hasn’t appeared on my account. What should I do?
Continue to monitor your My Finances screen. If your check has not posted after 5-7 business days, contact SFS (302-831-2126) for guidance.
