Job Overview

Student Development Officers are not only fund-raisers, but more importantly, public relations ambassadors for the University of Delaware. Their job responsibility is to seek alumni contributions and to update alumni records.

Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled University of Delaware student
  • Possess enthusiasm for the University
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A clear speaking voice and an excellent command of the English language
  • Reliable and be able to work a minimum of 3 nights per week

Student Development Interns

Internship: 3 credit hours

Schedule: 3 nights per week, 6:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m., Sunday–Thursday

Job Overview

A University of Delaware Student Development Officer is responsible for assisting the University in reaching its philanthropic goals by communicating its case for support to its broad base of alumni, parents, and friends.

An intern’s job for the Fund for Delaware is two-fold. The intern is not only a fund-raiser, but more importantly, a public relations ambassador for the University of Delaware. The job responsibility is to seek alumni contributions, update alumni records, and to work with other interns on developing a campus awareness program. This will include the design, implementation, and marketing of educational programs to promote philanthropy around campus.

To achieve a passing grade, interns must meet or exceed all campaign goals, complete assigned projects in the campus awareness program, and have no more than 3 absences during the semester.

  • Must be a Communication major or Business Administration
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A clear speaking voice
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Computer knowledge and typing skills

Student Supervisors

Base Pay: $1 increase from their last hourly rate as a Student Development Officer.

Schedule: 3 nights per week, 6 p.m.–10 p.m., Sunday–Thursday

Job Overview

Student Supervisors must be thoroughly familiar with program policies and procedures and must have worked as a Student Development Officer for a minimum of one semester, exceeding all statistical requirements on calling campaigns with demonstrated leadership qualities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the training of new Student Development Officers.
  • Assist Program Manager in evaluating nightly performance skills of the Student Development Officers.
  • Coach callers on techniques to improve their performance using pre-determined methods.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the Program Manager.
  • Administer 3 evaluations per shift to random callers in order to improve caller performances.
  • Complete 1 hour of calling per week to refresh calling skills.
  • Daily administration of nightly pledges; proofread, sign, stuff, and mail pledge letters to alums.
  • Maintain a positive and professional presence on the calling floor.
