The Office of Federal Relations advocates for the University of Delaware on legislative and regulatory matters of interest and serves as a liaison for members of elected office and their staffs. Policy makers can connect with information, resources and people on UD's campuses via the resources on this site or by directly contacting our office.
Here's just a sampling of where UD is making a difference in areas vital to the advancement of the United States:
UD's health-related work receives generous support from the National Institute of Health, marked by UD's participation and leadership in the IDeA States programs COBRE and INBRE.
The University has an ever increasing presence in the defense research corridor. Initiated in 2010, UD's Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the U.S. Army enables our organizations to work together on research projects. The CRADA was a natural extension of a long-standing collaboration where the Army regularly taps UD for our celebrated research in composite materials for military deployments. UD also continues to lead the nation in research on prosthetics, which are critical to the mission of the military in supporting wounded soldiers, including our leadership with the BADER consortium.
University of Delaware energy research spans the spectrum of alternative energy sources from nationally recognized work at our Institute of Energy Conversion to our offshore wind research. UD is forging the path for the state as a national leader in alternate resources. UD strives to serve as a leadership resource in creating and integrating new solutions to challenges in energy sufficiency and sustainability.

Each year, the University of Delaware issues its Diamond Report, an overview of UD's economic impact in Delaware and the region. The report's title is a nod to "The Diamond State," a nickname credited to Thomas Jefferson, who is said to have called Delaware "a jewel."
