CAN COGO TEACH MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS TO VOTE?
Targeted Audience: 6-8
Areas of Integration: Civics, Geography and Reading
Benchmarks Addressed: Civics 3 (Citizenship) and Geography 1 (Maps)
Workshop Description: This workshop guides teachers through a unit on Apartheid in South Africa, emphasizing the 1994 elections. It stresses the importance of using both expository and narrative pieces, and active citizenship. Teachers will see how the use of maps of what is being read will bring about a deeper understanding of the text.
