Workshop Description: Join Artie as he unlocks the mystery of history through the analysis of artifacts, using his new knowledge to uncover clues to the human and physical features of places in the past.

Benchmarks Addressed: Economics 3 (Economic Systems) and Civics 4 (Participation)
Workshop Description: The economics lessons specifically help students identify human resources and evaluate two production strategies. The civics lessons help students identify working together and cooperation as effective skills in reaching a group objective. The lessons feature a variety of hands-on activities such as games, dramatization, food production, and singing.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? - EXPLORING ECONOMIC WANTS OVER TIME
Targeted Audience: K-3
Areas of Integration: Economics, History, and Reading
Benchmarks Addressed: Economics 1 (Microeconomics) and History 2 (Analysis)
Workshop Description: This workshop uses children's literature to examine economic wants and how they are fulfilled. Participants will be introduced to stories that focus on the comparison of wants both long ago and now. Participants will also be instructed on how to introduce documents and artifacts to children.

STANDING OUR GROUND: BEING RESOURCEFUL AND RESPECTFUL IN TAKING SOCIAL ACTION
Targeted Audience: K-3
Areas of Integration: Economics, Civics, and Reading
Benchmarks Addressed: Civics Standard 2 (Politics) and 4 (Participation) and Economics 1 (Macroeconomics)
Workshop Description: The lessons presented in this workshop will allow your students to evaluate the costs and benefits of making choices when participating in social action issues and understand the resources used to satisfy their wants. Examples of citizenship rights such as petitioning, will be highlighted. Students will also learn effective goals towards being American citizens.

Workshop Description: One of the biggest problems in teaching today is scarcity of TIME! How can we teach all we have to teach in a day, week, month, or a year? Find your way to integrating geography (standard #1; mapping) and economics (standard #1: scarcity) into your reading block.

TOADS AND TIMELINES: USING BIOGRAPHIES TO INTEGRATE SOCIAL STUDIES AND READING
Targeted Audience: K-3
Areas of Integration: Geography, History, and Reading
Benchmarks Addressed: Geography 1 (Maps) and 3 (Places), and History 1 (Chronology)
Workshop Description: The goal of this workshop is to present elementary teachers with a strategy for using biographies of famous Americans as vehicles to teach map skills, show change in places over time, relate chronology, and strengthen comprehension skills using a modified KWLPlus organizer.
