Changing Your UNIX Disk Quota
Before submitting this form. . .
- Log onto Copland or Strauss to determine your current disk quota(s)
.
Type the UNIX command
quota -v
For each filesystem on which you have a disk quota, the system will report
one line of information. For example, in the following example, the user
has a 20 megabyte (20480 kilobyte) disk quota on the
/home/strauss/usrb
filesystem, and a 4 megabyte (4096 kilobyte) disk quota on the
/home/strauss/usrc
filesystem.
Disk quotas for jdoe (uid 9999):
Filesystem usage quota limit ...
/home/strauss/usrb
13422 20480 25600 ...
/home/strauss/usrc
2850 4096 5120 ...
- Make sure you have a computing project other
than Project 4000 ("Universal E-mail"). You cannot
increase your disk quota if the only computing project you have is
Project 4000. Type the UNIX command
chdgrp
to list your currently active projects.
- Note:
- If 4000 is your only project,
you must be added by an appropriate project director to his or
her computing project.
This can be authorized by your department head, your
professor, or your research advisor, whomever is the appropriate
project director for the work requiring the quota increase.
If you use the
Disk Quota Form to request
a quota increase under Project 4000, the process will
generate and send a electronic form letter to the project director you specify.
The e-mail will request that you be added to his or her project.
- Make sure you know who the project director for that project is and his
or her preferred e-mail address. You can use the on-line
e-mail directory search
to locate addresses on the UNIX system.
After you have this information. . .
- If you are not the Project Director, select and fill in the
Disk Quota Form.
- If you are the Project Director, select and fill in the
Project Director Disk Quota Form
instead.
