Conjugation- the one-way transfer of genetic material from a bacterium with an F plasmid to one lacking the F plasmid.
Extra-label – doses in excess of therapeutic – in excess of the dosage on the label.
F, F factor- the fertility factor, the ability of a bacteria, to form a long sex pilus that allows transfer of DNA.
Feed efficiency- the amount of energy an animal extracts from a given amount of feed. Found by dividing animal's weight increase by pounds of food ingested.
Pathogens- an organism capable or producing disease.
Plasmid - a strand or loop of DNA that exists independently of the chromosome in bacteria and yeast and that is capable of genetic replication
Subtherapeutic- low levels of medicine administered for extended periods of time.
Therapeutic- a dose of antibiotic intended to combat a particular infection at a level that eradicates those bacteria.
Transduction- the transfer of genetic material from one cell to another by means of a virus.
transformation- the transfer of genetic material from one cell to another resulting in a genetic change in the recipient cell.
Zoonosis- a disease that can be transferred from animals to humans.
