Application
IMPORTANT NOTE: Recent changes in state authorization legislation have imparted significant application and fee requirements on universities providing online courses or programs. At this time, the University of Delaware Dietetic Internship is not able to accept applicants residing in several states. For an up-to-date listing of approved states, please see: http://www.pcs.udel.edu/udonline/state-authorization/index.html.
1. DICAS application
The program is using the on-line centralized internship application DICAS, which may be accessed at portal.dicas.org, e-mail DICASinfo@DICAS.org. The on-line application must be completed for our program by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on February 15, 2016. The fee to use DICAS is $45 for the first application submitted and $20 for each additional application.
When completing the application form, applicants must include the name and contact information (specifically an e-mail address) for each reference. This will trigger an e-mail message requesting completion of a reference form. The form will be completed on-line. We recommend obtaining references from 2 faculty members and 1 work or volunteer supervisor. However, extensive work experience may warrant submission of 2 work references and 1 faculty reference.
Please give careful consideration to the people you ask to write your recommendations. To give your application the best possible chance in a competitive environment, it is important that the people who furnish your references know you and can attest to your abilities and accomplishments.
Applicants who apply to internships using DICAS will be asked to complete a personal statement. Questions to be addressed in the personal statement include:
- Why do you want to enter the dietetics profession?
- Discuss experiences that have helped you prepare for your career.
- What are your short- and long-term goals?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement?
- What other information do you consider important for the selection decision?
The response to all 5 questions combined may not exceed 1,000 words (8,000 characters).
Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended should be sent to:
DICAS-Transcript Department
P.O. Box 9118
Watertown, MA 02472
2. Computer matching with D & D Digital
Applicants must also register online for computer matching at http://www.dnddigital.com/ and select dietetic internship priority choices by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on February 15, 2016. There is a $55 computer matching fee.
Our computer matching number is 223.
3. University of Delaware Graduate Application
In addition to submitting the DICAS application, all dietetic internship applicants will need to submit a University of Delaware Graduate Application and pay a supplemental fee of $25.00 (credit cards or checks accepted). Please do not mail the application fee to the dietetic internship program.
Applicants do not need to upload essays or recommendation letters as these will come from the DICAS application. GRE scores are not required for application to this dietetic internship. Submission of an unoffical transcript is required for the Graduate Application. * Please select the Dietetic Internship Certificate Program, not the MS in Human Nutrition.
4. Supplemental materials:
The following materials can be scanned in and uploaded as supplemental materials as part of the DICAS application, or mailed directly to the dietetic internship office (postmarked by February 15, 2015):

Interviews
Internship faculty may request an interview either in person or via Adobe Connect. Applicants interviewed via Adobe Connect must have access to a webcam and microphone. We do not interview all applicants, so not being contacted for an interview does not indicate that an applicant is not being considered for admission.
Pre-Select Application Procedure (Available to UD Didactic and MS in Human Nutrition Students only)
The University of Delaware participates in the preselect option for students from the Didactic Program in Dietetics or the Master of Science in Human Nutrition program at the University of Delaware. Please note that if preselected, you are NOT eligible to participate in the computer matching process for the yearly match. Students will be notified by the program director regarding their status. The DI program director will provide the name and D&D Digital number of all students preselected for the 2016-2017 internship year to D&D Digital Systems, Inc. to ensure that they do not participate in the computer match.
If you are NOT selected through the preselect process, you may reapply to this or any other dietetic internships through the computer matching process.
