  1. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA

    The agenda was approved as issued.

  2. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

    The minutes for the October 3, 1994 meeting were corrected to show Senator Knecht excused. The minutes of this meeting then were approved.

  3. REMARKS BY UNIVERSITY PROVOST SCHIAVELLI

    None were made.

  4. ANNOUNCEMENTS

    President McLaughlin announced two open hearings:

    1. Provisional approval of the program for Bachelors in Environmental Engineering: Wednesday, November 9, 4:00 PM, 007 Willard Hall.
    2. Final approval of the program in Apparel Design: Monday, November 21, 4:00 PM, 131 Sharp Lab. [This open hearing has since been cancelled.]

    ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR CHALLENGE

    The following three programs were approved without comment:

    1. Revision of the B.A. in Philosophy
    2. Revision of the minor in Philosophy
    3. Revision of the B.S. in Physical Education Studies

  5. OLD BUSINES

    None

  6. NEW BUSINESS

    The following three items were approved overwhelmingly without debate:

    1. Recommendation from the Committee on Committees and Nominations (C. Boncelet, Chairperson), for Senate confirmation of a committee appointment to the Academic Priorities Review Committee.

      RESOLVED,
      that the appointment of Carroll Izard, Psychology, as a member of the Academic Priorities Review Committee is hereby confirmed.

    2. Recommendation from the Committee on Graduate Studies (P. Hooper, Chairperson '93-'94), with the concurrence of the Coordinating Committee on Education (H. Hall, Chairperson) for permanent approval for Nursing Administration concentration in M.S. in Nursing Program.

      WHEREAS,
      the Nursing Administration Concentration for the M.S. in Nursing has successfully completed a period of provisional status and continues to fill a need for nursing students in the M.S. Nursing Program, be it therefore
      RESOLVED,
      that, effective immediately, the Nursing Administration Concentration for the M.S. in Nursing be granted permanent status.

    3. Recommendation from the Committee on Graduate Studies (P. Hooper, Chairperson '93-'94), with the concurrence of the Coordinating Committee on Education (H. Hall, Chairperson) for new Post Master's Certificate Programs for Nursing. This item was approved with one abstention.

      WHEREAS,
      there is already an approved Post Master's Certificate in the Family Nurse Practitioner area of specialization, and
      WHEREAS,
      there is substantial demand for multiple specialty preparation in other nursing specialties at the graduate level, and
      WHEREAS,
      the National League for Nursing (the national accrediting body for the College of Nursing) has recommended graduate preparation in more than one specialty for advanced practice nurses, be it therefore
      RESOLVED,
      that Post Master's Certificates be established in the following areas of specialization.

      1. Nursing of Children
      2. Nursing of Mothers and Newborns
      3. Cardiopulmonary Nursing
      4. Oncology/Immune Deficiency Nursing
      5. Gerontological Nursing
      6. Nursing Administration

    4. Introduction of New Business

      There were no items of new business.

Senate President McLaughlin adjourned the meeting at 4:05 PM.
