Memorial service scheduled for Prof. Staci Perlman
5:17 p.m., Sept. 14, 2015--Staci Perlman, an assistant professor of human development and family studies at the University of Delaware, with a joint appointment in the Delaware Education and Research Development Center (DERDC), passed away on Aug. 12, 2015, after a brief illness.
The University will hold a memorial service for Dr. Perlman at 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18, in the Gallery of the Perkins Student Center.

Speakers will include John Fantuzzo, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania; Joe Willard, vice president of People’s Emergency Center; Joan Buttram, director of DERDC; HDFS faculty members Julie Wilgen and Mellissa Gordon; and HDFS doctoral student Sara Shaw. A brief reception will be held immediately after the presentations.
Dr. Perlman joined the UD faculty in July 2013. She received a doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice and then served as assistant professor in the Department of Social Work at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania.
A dedicated scholar, Dr. Perlman had been evaluating the development of a process for connecting young children involved with Philadelphia’s child welfare system to early education, and increasing the utilization of assistive technology by young children with disabilities.

Dr. Perlman is survived by her 9-year-old son, Matthew, her father, mother, stepfather and sister. The family is establishing a fund benefiting Dr. Perlman’s son. For information on how to contribute, please visit the CEHD website.
