UD's Spring Into Motion physical activity campaign opens
12:24 p.m., March 21, 2016--It’s that time of year when spring fever sets in and folks cannot wait to get out of the house after a long winter, as shown by the 547 University of Delaware faculty and staff members who will begin to track their physical activity as part of the Spring Into Motion physical activity campaign.
Today (Monday, March 21) marks the official start to the six-week program sponsored by Employee Health and Wellbeing.

Spring Into Motion challenges individuals to earn at least 6,000 steps or 30 minutes of activity daily. Steps can be tracked online using a Fitbit device.
Springtime is ideal for outdoor activity and after a cold, gray winter. The blue skies, new leaves, and warm breezes beckon people to get out and be active. “Being active not only benefits your physical wellbeing; it can help lift your mood, boost self-esteem and improve your ability to cope with stress, which can enhance quality of life,” says Kathy Corbitt, director of Employee Wellbeing and Engagement.
The spring program also offers a team component, with the teams made up of 4-6 individuals.
“Teams can provide a combination of support, motivation and, in some cases, healthy competition as well as providing a good opportunity to socialize,” says Ryan Keenan, coordinator of Employee Wellbeing. “We have close to 50 teams registered and, at the completion of the program, will be presenting the College Cup to the college or combined administrative units with the most activity points.”
Groups have been creative in coming up with team names. A few examples include The IT Crowd; Struttin’ Hens and a Rooster; Miss Fits; We CANR Do It; Geeks and Sneaks, and STARters.
Employees who have an interest in participating can still register through Wednesday, March 23. Visit this page for further information. The program ends on May 1.
