Geology student delivers presentation at American Geophysical Union conference
2:33 p.m., Dec. 17, 2015--University of Delaware senior Jeremy Keeler presented his poster titled “Accounting for the Long-Term Sediment Storage in a Watershed Scale Numerical Model for Suspended Sediment Routing,” at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) annual conference in San Francisco this week.
Keeler, an Honors Program student who is majoring in geology and environmental science, is developing a sediment transport computer model under the direction of James Pizzuto, professor in the Department of Geological Sciences, which is housed in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment (CEOE).

According to Keeler, previous models don't take into account the deposition and resuspension of the suspended sediment, which he believes are important considerations in development of watershed management practices and remediation efforts for mercury and other heavy metal spills.
Attending the conference and having the opportunity to present his student research was an exciting and “eye-opening experience,” Keeler said.
Other CEOE faculty and students who attended the AGU conference include, but are not limited to:
- Delphis Levia, chair of the Department of Geography;
- Jennifer Biddle, assistant professor of marine biosciences;
- Sean Hudson, Janice Hudson, graduate students in geography;
- Xuan Yu, a post-doctoral researcher in geological science; and
- Rosa Leon-Zayas, a postdoctoral research in marine bioscience.
