Keep Calm and Teach On
Faculty Commons hosts semester prep for University teachers Aug. 18-27
1:50 p.m., Aug. 3, 2015--Those who teach at the University of Delaware are invited to attend Keep Calm and Teach On, a series of hands-on learning sessions from Aug. 18-27.
The focused, 50-minute work sessions, hosted by the partners of Faculty Commons, are designed to help manage pre-semester chaos. This series covers over 20 popular topics including:

- Canvas topics: Setting up your course, Rubrics and speed grader and Extending Canvas;
- Classroom assessment to improve learning;
- Developing good collaborative learning assignments; and
- i>clicker topics: Getting started, What’s new in version 7 and Best practices.
Most topics will be available two different times over the course of the event. A full list of sessions and dates is available at the Faculty Commons website.
Participants are also encouraged to bring their lunches and partake in fun kinesthetic learning activities presented by the following featured guests from noon-1 p.m.
- John Byrne and Jeongseok Seo, Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Haiku assignment to focus students on central message.
- Allan Carlsen, Department of Theatre Role play to communicate: using expression and body language to effectively promote inclusion.
- Banjo Oriade, Department of Physics and Astronomy Origami to reinforce science and math concepts.
- Dustyn Roberts, Department of Mechanical Engineering Gumdrops and toothpicks to build bridges. Learning about interpretation, perspective, iteration, etc.
- Librarian Resources Potluck Social event with appetizer stations that include important information about University of Delaware Library resources.
All sessions will be hosted in UD’s Faculty Commons (116 Pearson Hall). Registration is not required, but participants are encouraged to sign up for reminders and updates about this series.
