University's 2016-17 Faculty and Staff Campaign kicks off May 2

8:55 a.m., April 27, 2016--The University of Delaware will launch its annual Faculty and Staff Campaign on May 2, seeking participation from more than 1,200 employees to have a lasting impact on the UD community. Last year’s campaign raised more than $1.2 million from more than 960 donors, with faculty and staff giving to many different programs across the University.

“Giving is a forward-thinking act which helps sustain great education and scholarship,” says Monica Taylor, vice president of development and alumni relations. “Students are accomplishing amazing things here at UD that will ultimately change the world for the better, and it’s inspiring to see such widespread generosity from faculty and staff supporting those endeavors.”

All UD faculty and staff members are invited to attend the annual UDid It! employee appreciation picnic, set from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, on The Green.

Philanthropic gifts support many areas at UD, including scholarships, research initiatives, teaching fellowships and capital projects. Faculty and staff are encouraged to support their college or unit’s unrestricted fund, but are welcome to make contributions to any of the University’s 2,000 designations.

Honors senior Rebecca Jaeger, who is the current president of the Student Government Association, says that support from faculty and staff serves as a vote of confidence in both the University and its students.

“It’s all about paying it forward,” she adds. “The opportunities I’ve enjoyed both inside and outside the classroom have been made possible thanks to the generosity of alumni, parents, friends, faculty and staff. It’s inspired me to give back, as well.” 

UD’s annual campaign officially begins on May 2. As a convenience, faculty and staff can donate to the campaign through payroll deduction before June 30 to take advantage of spreading the gift throughout the full fiscal year with no additional forms or paperwork. Gifts can be made online at the Faculty and Staff campaign website. 

After making their gift, faculty and staff are encouraged to share where and why they give back on social media using #BlueHenPride.
