“In light of recent events that took place at the University of Oklahoma and Penn State University, the University of Delaware Greek Community is adamant about opposing these particular views and speaking out against both of these disturbing incidents.
Our Greek Community is committed to fostering our values of Character, Diversity, Academics, Leadership, and Service. We do not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, sexual identity or religious backgrounds. We respect one another and other students on this campus as equals. We strive to be a leading group in the greater University of Delaware student population and bring positive impact to this campus.
It is extremely disappointing to see how the decisions of a few individuals within a chapter can have such an extremely negative outcome on an entire Greek population. While we stand unified here at UD, we realize just how much our individual actions can affect our community as a whole.
This is why we continue to take educating our members about the impact they can provide; both negatively and positively to their chapters, our community, and our campus very seriously.
We recognize that our identities not only as sorority women and fraternity men but also University of Delaware students come with a great deal of responsibility, and welcome the opportunity to lead by example.
As a community, we are also committed to open conversation and discussion. We are not perfect, and realize that we constantly have potential to evaluate our actions and improve along the way. While we may wear different letters on our chest, we all represent our Greek Nation here at UD, striving for progress, achievement, and longevity.”
